OUR PASTOR

Murdock Smith, Jr. was born in Gary, Indiana and moved to Houston, Texas via Gloster, MS with his parents in 1968. Pastor Smith is following in the footsteps of his father, the late Rev. M.D. Smith. Pastor Smith accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior on August 13, 1965 at Gloster First Baptist Church in Gloster MS under the leadership of his father Pastor M.D. Smith.

Pastor Smith graduated Texas Southern University and is a licensed professional engineer and a licensed Real Estate agent in the state of Texas. He furthered his academic studies at the University of Houston, Rice University and the College of Biblical Studies in Houston, Texas. Pastor Smith has served on several professional and community boards, and he currently serves as a board member on the Texas Southern University’s College of Science, Engineering and Technology advisory board.

Pastor Smith acknowledged his call to preach the gospel on November 1, 1998. He was elected and installed as the senior Pastor of the New Beginning Community Baptist Church on January 29, 2006.

Since becoming the Pastor of New Beginning Community Baptist Church, Pastor Smith has implemented several ministries to serve the community and the church body.
